Mosslight Island Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern use of Mosslight Island in the United States. By creating or managing an account, the parent or authorized adult agrees to these Terms on the family's behalf.

2. United States availability

Mosslight Island is currently offered for use in the United States. We may change geographic availability in the future after updating the service, legal notices, and privacy controls as appropriate.

3. Parent account and child profiles

A parent or authorized adult creates and controls the family account and any child profiles. The parent is responsible for providing accurate account information, protecting parent credentials and parent-gate credentials, and supervising use of the service as appropriate for the family.

For a child profile, please provide only a first name or nickname and do not enter a last name. Parents should not place unnecessary personal information in free-text fields or support reports.

4. Educational service

Mosslight Island provides educational practice, learning activities, stories, games, and related family features. Content is designed to support learning but is not a substitute for a child's school, teacher, licensed educational specialist, medical professional, or other qualified professional.

Mosslight Island's progress measures are internal educational indicators. They are not clinical diagnoses, standardized test scores, official school grades, or professional educational evaluations, and they should not be treated as equivalent to i-Ready, state testing, or another independently normed assessment unless Mosslight Island expressly states otherwise for a specific future product.

5. Free service now; optional paid offerings later

Mosslight Island is currently available at no charge.

We may introduce optional paid subscriptions, premium adult-facing features, family features, physical merchandise, or other paid offerings in the future. Any price, renewal term, and material purchase condition will be shown to the parent before a purchase is made. We will not charge an existing free account merely because paid offerings are introduced.

Introducing paid offerings will not reduce a child's privacy protections. Core safety controls, accessibility controls, parental privacy rights, consent controls, and data deletion controls will not be sold as privacy or safety upgrades.

6. Mosslight Shop and merchandise

Mosslight Island may include a clearly identified Mosslight Shop or merchandise area where children can discover real-world Mosslight products such as clothing, blankets, toys, books, or plush items.

Child-facing merchandise presentation will make clear that the products are real-world goods that cost real money and that a grown-up handles purchases. A child cannot complete a purchase.

Buttons may use neutral language such as "Open Grown-Up Shop," "Continue with a Grown-Up," or "Show a Grown-Up." The service will not use countdowns, fake scarcity, guilt, character pressure, progress pressure, "collect them all" pressure, or rewards that require a real-money purchase.

Actual checkout, payment, shipping, returns, and order management occur in the adult commerce experience. Adult payment and shipping information are not added to the child's educational profile. Merchandise purchases do not affect learning progress, educational access, safety protections, accessibility features, stars, rewards, characters, or mastery.

7. Privacy and parental consent

Use of Mosslight Island is subject to the Mosslight Island Privacy Policy and Children's Privacy / COPPA Direct Notice. For new public child profiles after the parental-consent launch cutover, the service requires the configured parental-consent process before covered child collection begins.

Parents can review or export child information, revoke consent to stop future covered collection, and separately request deletion through the Privacy & Data controls or by contacting privacy@mosslightisland.com.

8. Acceptable use

You may use Mosslight Island for lawful personal and family educational purposes. You may not:

•attempt to gain unauthorized access to another family's account or child session;

•interfere with, probe, overload, or bypass security controls;

•scrape or systematically extract private user information;

•upload malicious code or use the service to harm another person;

•impersonate another person or misrepresent authority over a child profile; or

•use Mosslight Island content or services in a way that violates applicable law or another person's rights.

9. Intellectual property

Mosslight Island, its characters, artwork, stories, names, logos, software, and original content are owned by or licensed to Mosslight Island and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms provide a limited right to use the service for personal and family purposes; they do not transfer ownership of Mosslight Island intellectual property.

Physical merchandise may be subject to additional purchase, shipping, return, or marketplace terms presented to the adult purchaser.

10. Service changes and availability

We may update, improve, add, remove, or discontinue features. We aim to preserve family data and communicate material changes appropriately, but uninterrupted service is not guaranteed. Maintenance, provider outages, security events, or technical failures may temporarily affect availability.

We may suspend access when reasonably necessary to protect a child, family, the service, other users, or the security of Mosslight Island.

11. Account closure and deletion

Parents may stop using Mosslight Island at any time. Parent controls provide separate actions for stopping future covered child collection and requesting deletion of child data. Account-level deletion may also be available through the parent privacy controls when enabled and verified.

Some minimal records may be retained for limited security, legal, consent-evidence, privacy-request, and deletion-reconciliation purposes as described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Disclaimers and limitation of service

Mosslight Island is provided as an educational practice service. Although we work to keep content accurate, age-appropriate, safe, and available, the service may contain errors or experience interruptions.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Mosslight Island is provided without guarantees that every activity, estimate, recommendation, or feature will be error-free or suitable for every individual child. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot legally be waived under applicable consumer law.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the service changes. We will maintain versioned legal notices. Material changes will be handled consistently with applicable law and the parental-consent commitments described in our Privacy Policy.
